WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

They capture the sun’s energy and convert it into electricity that you can use in your home. They are made from photovoltaic cells. Since solar energy is a renewable resource, by installing solar panels you can generate your own renewable electricity thereby reducing your energy bills and helping protect the environment.

  • You may be able to have solar panels fitted for free as part of one of the Government’s grants and schemes, paid for by a levy in our energy bills
  • Your energy bills will be reduced immediately, by as much as £240 a year or more
  • You will be helping protect the environment and contributing to the UK’s emissions target, by improving your energy efficiency

HOW MUCH WILL IS SAVE?

A 4.4KW system fitted on an average 3 bedroom semi-detached house, with electric heating, could save up to £300–£500 per year. (dependant on usage and 20p/kwh electric unit charge).

There is also a payment available from your energy supplier, provided they are signed up to the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG).

The SEG is a legal obligation for any electricity supplier that supplies at least 150,000 customers to offer an export tariff to those with solar panels for each kWh produced.

There is quite a large discrepancy between the different SEG rates from the different providers. These can vary between 2p and 5p per kwh,(annually £79 and £197, for a 4.4Kw system so it pays to shop around.

Would it work for my home?
